Dear fellow members and friends of
the Birmingham Fil-Am community:
By this time, you would have seen and heard from the mass media of the horrific devastation that has befallen our native country. Last Friday (11/08/13), Typhoon Haiyan swept through the southern part of the Philippines, with ferocious winds leveling the entire city of Tacloban, Leyte, leaving in its wake, tens of thousands dead, homeless and hungry.
As we see the harrowing pictures of a city reduced to piles of rubble and debris, the heartbreaking scenes of humanity, many of them children, crying out for food and water, we know we cannot continue to just watch and listen in front of our TV screens, without wanting to extend an act of kindness or generosity to those in desperate need. Many times, it takes the worst of tragedies to bring out the best in people. This is one of the worst disasters we have seen in a long, long time.
Most of us are in a position to help. This is one of those times when giving on our part will mean so much more to so many people. The Filipino-American Association of Greater Birmingham, Inc. (FAAGB) is now raising money to be sent over to assist in the relief efforts for the typhoon victims. So, please consider donating.
If you decide to help, you may write your check payable to: PROJECT HELP TYPHOON HAIYAN VICTIMS Kindly send to the following address: FAAGB / 3489 Birchtree Dr. Hoover AL 35226 Also, Bancorp South is accepting monetary donation-acct# 75011445 If you have any questions, you can email us at email@example.com or contact:
